Our Engagement

“We did it! We’re engaged!” I say as if I had anything to do with it. I got to sit back and be surprised, while Micah went out of his way and did all the planning.

Through our whole relationship, I always felt like Micah has given me 100%, but each month, week, or day that goes by, he continues to surprise and impress me. He outdoes himself all the time – I really scored when I found someone great at breaking records and exceeding expectations in everything he approaches.

At the beginning, all I knew was that I was feeling something different and decided to explore that. I invested my all without realizing it somewhere along the way. We’ve done a lot in a short amount of time, but with each moment and each conversation I fall harder and get excited for more with him.

We went to his hometown for the weekend and planned on relaxing for Memorial Day. His family was keeping it low key and I was interested in being able to relax while all of Paxon’s cousins wrangle him so I can sit back and enjoy the company.

On Saturday, the 25th, it was suggested by Micah that I go get my nails done with his sister in law. I will never, ever turn down some pampering and he knows that too well.

We got back to his brother’s house and there was word we were headed out of town to this awesome Pho place and I was really looking forward to it. In minutes, it seemed that plans had changed and Micah and I were on our way to Leavenworth and had somehow lucked out by having his family watch Paxon. I was a little bummed out and hungry, but with what happened ahead, I should have been more patient.

On the way there, Micah mentioned this hike that he had looked into before we were going to get some food. I was nervous because the weather was overcast and I happened to be wearing sandals but he assured me it was easy and I couldn’t complain because that area of Washington is completely gorgeous.

The hike is called the Old Pipeline Bed Trail and just driving up to the parking area offered beautiful views of the forest and one of the rivers that runs through Leavenworth. I told myself I was going to take pictures of the area, but I got distracted and never did!

There’s a bridge at the very beginning of the hike and before we could even get across it more than halfway, Micah turns to me and starts talking. He tells me I’m a good mother to our son and that he loves me. I wish I could remember word for word what he said but at this point I was lost and just kept saying “thank you” until he pulled out a ring and got down on one knee.

I barely heard what he said before my eyes watered and I said an immediate “yes!”

We walked further to sit on rocks overlooking the river and discussed what just happened and what was in store for us. I almost forgot to mention that the rocks were mossy and we were both soaked for a couple of hours afterwards.

I don’t know how much time passed talking to each other before we decided to head back to downtown Leavenworth and wait for our dinner reservations at a place called Mozart’s.

Little did I know, the surprises weren’t over with. Upon arriving to our table, a bottle of wine was waiting. I can say without hesitation that it is the best red blend I’ve ever had in my life. If you ever feel like splurging on wine, definitely give The Arsonist a try!

Our first course was fondue. The cheese was made from Gruyere, Asiago, Swiss cheese and white wine, satisfying a craving I didn’t even know existed.

Dinner was linguine and vegetables in a garlicky, white wine sauce. For the life of me, I can’t remember what the dish was called but it exceeded my expectations! I opted out of shrimp or chicken because I knew I was going to be so full. I, regretfully, couldn’t even finish the whole dish.

All in all, my heart is overflowing and I don’t feel like I deserve to be so spoiled. Micah could have proposed to me with a zip tie and I would have given him the same answer with the same emphasis. I couldn’t imagine saying anything else other than yes to this man. He gave me a son and will soon give me his last name. I owe so much to him and have so much to look forward to in our life together.

I know I found a man who believes I deserve the world, fortunately, my world is him and my son.
